Riders from Across the United States & Canada Join In
Raises $88,000 for TextLess Live More & Merritt's Way Scholars
On Saturday, September 23, a team of 46 enthusiastic "Merritt's Way Riders" hopped on bikes (racing, stationary AND 1 recumbent!) to ride 25 and 50 miles to raise money for TextLess Live More and the Merritt's Way Scholars through the Trinity Excellence in Education Program (TEEP). "Team Merritt's Way" included riders from California, Wyoming, New York, Massachusetts, Georgia, Vermont, Texas, Virginia, New Hampshire and Montreal, Canada.
"Anna, Hunter, Joe and I, and all of Merritt's family and friends are humbled by the generous show of support from the community and especially the 46 Merritt's Way Riders who dedicated training time and fundraising energy to this cause," said Rich Levitan, Merritt's father and Captain of the 50 Milers. "We grew from five brave riders who road with me in September 2013 after we lost Merritt in July to a distracted driver who was texting, to a team today that includes Merritt's friends from Milton Academy and Overland, family members from Austin, Texas to New York, and a cadre of TextLess Live More supporters from Georgia to Vermont and California to Canada that represent thirty-five years of friendship. It's just incredible. We can't wait until next year!"
Team Merritt's Way sets a new goal of $100,000 for the September 2018 Ride. Rich Levitan would like to see "Team Merritt's Way" grow to 100 riders or even more for next year's Rodman Ride to help spread the message and mission of TextLess Live More. "We have a simple goal at TextLess Live More: raise awareness and educate people of all ages about the real dangers of distracted driving to save lives. Days like today and events like the Rodman Ride are empowering and encouraging. We've got some very exciting partnerships in the works for TextLess Live More I look forward to sharing with the TLLM Community over the coming months," Levitan adds. "Every mile counts!"
