Independence Day may be over, but this month is all about Digital Independence. July's initiative was designed by the SADD SLC-CAC to help us get free from unhealthy habits with our phones and Live More.
GetLiving is a monthly campaign to "Live More" and bring awareness to digital distraction.
In the United States, July is most known for the celebration of the Fourth of July, or Independence Day. But this year, we want to flip the script. Ask yourself: am I dependent on my phone?
For most of us, the answer is probably yes. This is because our phones and the applications on them are designed to be addictive; for tech companies who profit on our attention, the longer our eyes are on our screens, the better.
This month, our goal is simple: become more digitally independent. Free yourself from compulsive scrolling, mindless hours, and unhealthy tech-life balance and let yourself live more. This means putting the phone down, changing our habits, and enjoying summer with family and friends.
Some great ways to start are by turning off some of your push notifications, placing your phone on airplane mode for an hour or more a day, practicing phone-free meals, or turning your screen to grayscale.
