You're Something to Somebody

April 15, 2025

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Let's do better.

While the concept of TextLess Live More can encompass many different meanings, it is and should be thought of literally.

It’s easier to think about TextLess Live More figuratively. To focus on and practice using less technology and living more mindfully. Because thinking about TextLess Live More literally, is tragic.

It’s sobering. Cruel. Cold. Unfathomable. But it’s why we’re here.

Because a young man texted while driving, and Merritt Levitan died.

You—yeah, you, the person reading this right now— you’re something to somebody. You’re somebody’s sister. Brother. Sibling. Mother. Father. Friend. Partner. Lover. You’re somebody’s something.

Merritt is my sister. She is my somebody. But I can no longer see, call, talk to, hug, laugh with, my somebody. Because she was killed by a distracted driver.

The thing about driving distracted? It’s 100% preventable.

I urge you this month to really think about distracted driving. If you see something, say something. If you think you’re in control and being safe and have the urge to reach for and check your phone, think again. If you just want to find another song, just don’t.

Because you’re something to somebody. Because we all are. And because it’s really not worth it.

Let's all do better this Distracted Driving Awareness Month, okay?

xx
