Our next Engagement Board introduction is with Daphne!
A junior at Fairfield High School in Ohio, Daphne is a first-time TextLess Live More Engagement Board member. Beyond being involved with SADD and TLLM, Daphne is part of many other extracurricular activities. She is a worship leader at her church, a big sister at Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a member of a youth coalition focused on alcohol and substance abuse prevention. Daphne is also in the creative writing club at her school, which is new this year, as well as being part of her school’s internal pen pal program. So many cool things!
Although college is still a year off, Daphne already knows she wants to be pre-med. Her goal is to be a pediatrician or a general practitioner, and hopes to attend John Hopkins University or UNC Chapel Hill. We know Daphne will be a great doctor!
Daphne was one of the founding members of her school’s SADD chapter, and found TextLess Live More through SADD. One of Daphne’s former counselors recommended her for our Engagement Board. Distracted driving is an important cause for Daphne, as she herself is a little fearful of driving because people can be so unsafe. Daphne also likes being part of TLLM because she believes in a “safe social media environment”. She loves helping people and enjoys representing her state.
Outside of all the organized groups Daphne is a part of, she loves to read -- the library is Daphne’s favorite place! She also told us she loves to sing, and that she “sings all the time.” Daphne greatly enjoys watching movies, working on her photography, and taking walks outside. All of these hobbies are wonderful!
When we asked Daphne what else she wants people to know about her, Daphne told us she “likes to inspire people”. Daphne believes she was born a leader, and we agree! Our Engagement Board is full of incredible students, and Daphne is definitely one of them. It is amazing when young people choose to make a positive difference in the world. During our interview, Daphne shared one of her favorite mantras: “a leader can fall, but rises back up to show people not to stay low.”
